So, to me, the L Word is the best show ever. And I am just curious...why do so many people hate on this show and Ilene Chaiken?

I love the L Word and think it must be the most popular lesbian show (I especially love Bette[IMG] and Tina!)

I dislike it because it destroyed a bunch of likable characters. Is S1 - Alice, Dana, Shane, etc... Were pretty cool. Jenny was annoying, but you could live with it.

As the show progressed, the cool characters got killed off, turned in to awful people, or written into horrible story lines.

I wanted to watch fun, quirky Alice - not crazy stalker obsessed Alice.

And Jenny was annoying. And the show became so trashy - basically soft porn + soap opera plot lines. Not my thing.

Honestly... I never really got past the first episode... Call me an old soul but there are some things one just doesn't want to see on tv. For myself... I just couldn't get past the graphic sex content. Just... Nooooo. Mind you, my girlfriend loves it. ;) So each to their own!

I didn't think it was horrible but it was kind of weird at times and the characters were all over the place from season to season. I don't know if the writer/director was going for the typical artsy fartsy then was forced to go normal main stream then had another hot Turkish oil wrestling match with execs when going back to artsy fartsy scripting. I don't know what it is but some scenes are hard to watch because it was at times just weird. The show had all these great actresses and actors and so much potential but it failed to be great. I still supported the show because it did open peoples eyes.

It's too much like a soap opera.

It started off so well and then it went downhill sharply. Breaking up Alice and Dana and then of course the killing Dana off. From there every character acted against their own type and the writing got more soap opreraish as Just Me said. The writing got tired, rather than seeing the start of a conversation a scene would so "And..."

    Two words: Ilene Chaiken.

The story lines became drama, the writing became shit, and the show became less about more reality and more about Chaiken paying homage to her ego. The first season was good...the second season...ok....after that...meh. IMO Queer as Folk was better (although marginally better).

If you liked Queer as Folk you should look up the original British version :)

The original British version of Queer as Folk is the way better than American! But coming back to the L word. Am I the only one who thinks that's strange that Tina don't have any family? :)

Out of all of the unrealistic things about that show, that's the one you're hung up on?

Yes, because she's not that old to doesn't have a parents. And it's unreal that they didn't mention about any of her distant relatives. But of course you're right. There are many unrealistic things on the L word. Let's say how it is possible to learn sign language per one week?

    LOL.

I don't have parents and I'm not that old. My college roommate lost his parents before he was 20. It does happen that parents die young.

    because homophobia.
it's like sex and the city for lesbians and i love it.
all the men who watch it for the fanservice though, that bothers me. like... get your own show, this one's ours!

i'm at season 3 and lost interest. i hate how they kill the good characters. eg mariana was introduced as a strong character then ended up suicidal and removed from show.. dana's gone and my favourite of all...lara's gone too

For me, it's due to three reasons.

    1. Jenny Schecter.
    2. There are not nearly enough LGBT+ people in my area as there are in their world. I am bitter and salty.
    3. They ended it on a darn cliff hanger. It still stings to this day.
