Like a lot of people here, i came back to AE after a couple of years of being inactive/shut down my profile.

When i came back i found the new layout a bit disappointing. It seems that a lot of the great functions and active forums were just completely wiped and AE went for a simpler feel. It'd be a whole lot more helpful if your help link actually did what it's link stated.

For example when i joined up again, it's no longer called 'private messages', it's now 'conversations'. I found this a bit confusing as i wasn't sure if conversations were private or, depending on your privacy status, for all of AE to see. Unfortunately, there is no FAQs or how to navigate the new site links (or at least that i can see without going into a lot of forum links).

I can also appreciate AE trying to be an active website with the community and not just another website for girls go to online date. However, what happened to being able to have your profile up where you could write about you and your interests? I found it really helpful to connect with people in the community over books, movies etc we had in common. Sure you can go into a forum about books or movies but it was also great to be able to see what a specific member was interested in.

I also think it'd be great if you could search for people in the same country. I know you can start a thread as a shout out, but being able to search at least for members within your country would be great!

It would be nice if the articles on the front page focused less on tv/celebrity life and more on real life as well. Maybe more articles about lesbian parenting, real life coming out stories, health issues... You know things that pertain to the real world?

I got to see how it looked like back then with a few months before the drastic changes, when the theme was just white with a decent red that didn't made me wear sunglasses in front of the laptop. It looked mature, now I'm not sure if this is made after a teenager girl's blog or is trying to like those superstars who started off from Disney and grew up into looking like striptease dancers. I'm surprised they didn't add tongues and nips next to the emoticons.

    Kaiden your post was awesome.

I've actually never really posted and thread openly complaining about something but I was really disappointed.

I think it's crazy you also have to search where to sign up or log in!

I do think its great to have a place to talk about lesbian books, movies etc but to be honest I don't read gay literature or watch many gay movies. I'd rather read about some real issues and talk about other things that's not completely to do with being gay. I use to come here for the excellent forums on anything and everything, not just about being gay.

Hey, I'm just thrilled they gave us back profile pages. Compared to the bright pink apocalypse, this isn't half bad. I do think as membership picks back up, there will be a better diversity of threads. Kinda like the old, old (pre-pink) AE.

I've had the pleasure(?) of being a reader of this website for probably about a decade now. So I've seen this website redesigned several times. This website is so much better than all the previous incarnations, plus we have a lot of our functions back... which is something I didn't quite get in regards to the last design. I also notice that they have a different parent company, unless Totally Her is also owned by MTV.

All in all I do like this. I get why they are using pink because it is a feminine colour and it goes with the AE logo. Not that pink is my favourite colour, but still. I get it. It does look younger and fresher, and the older versions looked old and stodgy. Also, the website is much more mobile friendly than before when it was a serious pain in the arse to even type a comment on your mobile device.

In terms of the writing and diversity of threads - the threads will pick up eventually. People just left because the old threads and PM functions disappeared.

Like sundancer, I've been around AE for a long time. I can still remember it back when it was just a wee blog sort of thing, and Sarah Warn wrote most of the stuff. So I've seen it change a lot, and even though I feel kind of nostalgic thinking about it, it had to change, and it looks nice now.

However, I was very disappointed to lose my whole history here with the recent changes. My username was changed (random number added), and I can't seem to find a way to change it back--not even by deleting my account and signing up again, since there doesn't seem to be a way to close your account... It even says I'm a "new member", and there's no record of any of the threads I ever participated in. I wish it had kept at least some of our old information, especially our original sign up date, which always made me feel kind of old, but in a good way :p Also, it would be nice to have something like an FAQ or an email we could write to for help with this stuff. I guess AE is way too big now, and like everything that grows too much, a little bit too impersonal.

I think @Harpy can help with some of that. I think other changes are part of the multiple sales and seem un-doable.

I agree its heartbreaking to loose so much history.

I can't remember exactly when I first came here, though it says I joined in 2009. I know it was before that. I'm also one of those who've come and go over the years. I liked the site's setup from maybe....2006?

I know how you feel, it tells me I joined in 2013 which I think it went to the MTV version of things. I;ve been around much longer than that.

The forums will diversify once more people realize they're back and get excited to contribute. However, the post and article quality is pretty much up to the powers at be. If they are wise they will listen to us and get some writers like Sarah Warn back into the mix. I'd even suggest they beg for the old Vloggers to come back.

I just mean writers who care about the same topics as she does/did. I think if she wanted back she'd be back. We'd gladly take her.

Maybe if we all start emailing asking for better substance they'll actually start to do something about it?

We bitched about the forums enough, and they improved...

was it from the bitching? Or did AE crash so hard it became a "buy low" investment for Totally Her?

Guys are fine looking at a pornish site, but girls want community and articles?

I still can't figure out where exactly to bitch and ask if I can somehow help write articles that are more like what I remember AE doing. I'm about to start a kickstarter for my own afterafterellen with everything we actually want to see, because these sites were incredible for the gay community. Of course MTV had to get rid of it before people thought lesbians were more than Tila Tequila.
